Route 11 and West Monroe St. Pavement Marking and Signing Plan

The Virginia Department of Transportation's design for the Route 11 and West Monroe Street intersection improves safety and operations. Key benefits: the north leg of Monroe Street is realigned to match the south leg; additional distance from the West Main Street signal provides storage and safer operation during I-81 detours; a clear path across West Lee Highway reduces the risk of head-on conflicts; right-angle stopping positions improve sight lines; a raised median on West Lee Highway restricts left turns from the Food City driveway; and new dedicated left-turn lanes are added in both directions.
